When Michelle called to me photograph her wedding just a week before it would take place, I had no idea that it was possible to prepare for one in such a short amount of time. You see, most of our clients book us months before their wedding date, which gives us lots of time to get acquainted with them, do some location scouting and better manage their expectations. But not so with Michelle and Wil’s wedding. And yet it turned out to be one of the most adorable and memorable wedding we’ve photographed because of its intimacy. In fact, the couple had decided to exchange their vows in the backyard of her uncle’s house in the presence of their closest friends and families.
A beautiful twist in the story was that Michelle’s dad performed the ceremony. How wonderful is it to have one’s dad conducting the ceremony? I have a little idea because my wife’s dad also performed the ceremony at our wedding over ten years ago, and those memories are precious to us. And that wasn’t all! We were actually commissioned to photograph their wedding for one hour, which we normally don’t do except to help a bride out at the last minute, and it turned out that one can actually come up with a decent amount of images for their clients in under an hour. Like I say to potential clients in their pre-wedding consultation, it doesn’t matter where the wedding takes place. As long as there are authentic moments happening, both the background and environment can be second-class actors in telling the story between two people looking at each other and promising to themselves that they’ll stick with each other for life.
Here’s to Michelle and Will, and their beautiful children. Thank you so much for the trust you’ve given us in documenting this beautiful day for you.
